I wanted my label to be representative of the person I am and where I come from. For me and my family, much of that influence comes from my Nonno, Bruno Malucchi. Bruno was an incredible man who was an inspiration to anybody who knew him. True to his Italian roots, famiglia was the center of his world. He loved nothing more than good people & a great party. The atmosphere had to be loud, the food aplenty, and the wine never in short supply.
Growing up, Nonno was a boxer. He was a scrappy one, whose relentless tendencies helped him become a golden gloves winner. To me, the gloves are a symbol of his strength and perseverance. In boxing and in life, Nonno never quit. He was a true “heavy hitter” who earned the respect of everyone who knew him. I cannot speak highly enough about my grandfather, he was an incredible man and the way he attacked life was nothing short of spectacular. Nonno’s mentality, his tenacity and his courage, inspired me to live my life with a little fire and grit of my own.
As I got older, Nonno would tell me stories about making wine with his father, in his garage in San Francisco. After my acceptance to UC Davis, I chose a career in Viticulture and Enology. I knew that if I was ever fortunate enough to start a label of my own, it would be called Caro Nonno, “Dear Grandpa”. This is my tribute to him, my way of honoring my grandfather and the heritage which I hold so close to my heart.
My family continues to live like him, so I hope my label inspires you to do the same. When you drink Caro Nonno Wines, I hope you feel Nonno saying “pull up a chair, join our table!” because every time we open a bottle, that feeling comes to life. We raise our glass to hard work and happiness because that’s what it’s all about… Cheers!
